How the tiers are decided

The tiers follow the audience, not the position a course occupies in a curriculum diagram: high school, then introductory college, then upper-division engineering. Professional Coaching is separate from the academic progression because it is priced by service type rather than course level.

That is why AP Calculus and AP Physics C: Mechanics sit in High School & Test Prep despite covering college-level material. They are taken by high-school students, in a high-school schedule, alongside other high-school coursework — so they are priced like it.

It is also why physics and chemistry are listed by level rather than as bare subjects. High School Physics and College Physics I are different courses with different expectations, and they belong in different tiers. If you are unsure which tier your course falls into, say so in your inquiry and I will tell you before we schedule anything.

What the hourly rate includes

The rate covers the preparation before the session and the materials that arrive after it. There is no separate charge for either. A few items depend on how we meet, and those are marked.

Online vs. in person

Online sessions are available anywhere in the United States and are recorded end to end. In-person sessions carry the higher rate because of travel, and are limited to roughly a 15-minute radius of ZIP code 23462 in Virginia Beach, or Oberndorf Central Library on Virginia Beach Blvd.

Cancellations and rescheduling

Sessions are paid at booking. Cancel or reschedule more than 24 hours before the start time and you receive a full credit toward a future session, used within 90 days; inside 24 hours the session is forfeited. The full terms are in the Cancellation Policy.

Current Midshipmen

I offer separate pricing for current U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen. Having been one myself, I understand the schedule, the workload, and the academic environment. Reach out directly rather than using the tiers above.

Ben is actively tutoring my son in High School Algebra II with active realization in significant improvement after just a few sessions. Ben is provided the class syllabus and proactively uses it to complete problems himself ahead of time, so that he is familiar with the current course module of instruction; this active prep significantly adds value to the tutor session. We appreciate his preparation and delivery of instruction via a caring and patient demeanor.
